GETTING THERE & COST ENTRY FEE: 600 BUS FROM HAKUBA TO JR NAGANO Easiest is to get the Alpico bus from one of fthe various stops in Hakuba. This will take you to JR Nagano (East Exit) •	Adults 2,800, Child 1,400 each way •	1 hr 15 mins   FROM JR NAGANO TO THE TEMPLE •	Walk:You need to pass through the station to the other side (Zenkoji exit).  From there it’s a 30 min/2km walk •	By bus: Nagano Station  Zenkoji Daimon o	    Bus Stop #1 (Bound for Zenkoji Temple) o	    Located at the Bus Rotary in front of Zenkoji Exit of Nagano Station. o	 160/15 mins o	Departs every 10 mins ABOUT THE TEMPLE This incredibly ancient buddhist temple was built in the 7th century and is still an important pilgrimage site for buddhists from all over Japan.  Needless to say it is a National Treasure. The temple contains a statue of a physician named Binzuru, who was believed to be Buddha's follower. Visitors are allowed to touch the statue and it is supposed to cure their ailments.  From the inner chamber inside the main temple building, a narrow staircase leads down to a pitch black corridor. There is a metal key hanging on the wall in this corridor, if you can touch it you are said to gain enlightement. In this corridor worshippers try to touch a metal key hanging on the wall, in order to gain enlightenment. There are many other interesting Temple Gates and buildings on the temple compound most covered by the same entance fee, so it is worth spending an hour or 2 there. Nagano city is the capital city of Nagano prefecture, so you will probably enjoy walking around the strees near the train station. TIMETABLE TIMETABLE
